Van Dyke married Margie Willet Van Dyke in 1948, but they were divorced by 1984.

They got married on his radio show Bride and Groom because the show paid for the wedding rings, a honeymoon, and household appliances.

After the nuptials, they were so poor that they were living in his car.

They had four children together, Christian, Barry, Stacy and Carrie Beth.
