The first synopsis for Superman has surfcaed online, teasing what to expect from James Gunn’s highly anticipated reboot of the Man of Steel. The synopsis arrives just days ahead of the film’s first trailer, which is set to debut on Thursday, December 19.

The official synopsis reads: “In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.” Details about the plot of the upcoming DC Universe movie are being kept under lock and key at DC Studios.

What to expect from James Gunn’s Superman movie

Corenswet steps into the role of Superman, taking over from Henry Cavill, who portrayed the character in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe. Rachel Brosnahan joins him as Lois Lane, alongside a star-studded cast that includes Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. James Gunn, known for his distinct blend of humor and emotion in superhero projects like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, writes and directs the film.

A Superman motion poster released earlier today gave fans a taste of the film’s tone and scope. It features Corenswet’s Superman in mid-flight, accompanied by the tagline “Look Up” and a snippet of the movie’s score composed by John Murphy, setting the stage for a grand cinematic experience filmed for IMAX.

Superman: Legacy is set to launch a new chapter for the DC Universe under Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership. The movie hits theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates as the DC Universe continues to unfold.
