Will Aaron Pierre honor the Green Lantern Corps? The Lanterns star speaks out on being cast as John Stewart in the upcoming DC Universe series.

Aaron Pierre might be the highest profile example of a fancast coming to life. The actor made a massive splash in Rebel Ridge right as casting was underway for Lanterns. This led many fans to post expressing their hope for the actor to play John Stewart in Lanterns. Less than a month after the campaign began, Pierre officially joined the DC Universe as the fourth Green Lantern of Sector 2814.

However, this seeming success doesn’t mean everything is all sunshine and rainbows in the Green Lantern fandom. John Stewart is an incredibly important character in the DC Universe, with many fans viewing him as a bastion of representation. So even though Aaron Pierre was largely considered a fantastic choice to play the character in Lanterns, an air of worry has been constant over the internet given the franchise’s history of poor adaptations.

Aaron Pierre Comments On John Stewart Casting

Like a lot of actors who have been cast in the DC Universe thus far, Aaron Pierre has kept his lips sealed, if only out of self-preservation in a notoriously brutal fandom space. ComicBook.com was lucky to catch the actor for an exclusive interview, asking him about his thoughts on being cast in Lanterns. While Pierre didn’t say much, he did vow to bring honor to John Stewart and respect his place in Green Lantern history.

“What I can tell you is that the team are just super, super excited to have this opportunity to bring this story to the people,” Pierre explained. “And, so far as I’m concerned, I’m gonna do my very best to serve and honor and elevate in any way I can, John Stewart and the [Green Lantern] Corps. Hopefully, I serve that and it resonates with me.”

In a world where so many actors take roles in superhero franchises for money and fame, it’s good to hear that Aaron Pierre truly cares about how John Stewart is being represented. It’s something the franchise sorely needs. Lanterns is projected to be the fourth of fifth project to release in the DC Universe. Given the sour history of Green Lantern adaptations in the past, there’s going to need to be a large push to make sure the series succeeds.
