Doomsday’ Cast Adds Agent Carter Actress Hayley Atwell

Hayley Atwell is set to reprise her role as Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday, according to a report from Deadline. This marks Atwell’s first return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe since appearing as Captain Carter in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the animated series What If…? on Disney Plus.

The news comes as Chris Evans is also expected to return in Avengers: Doomsday, though his role remains unclear. Evans surprised fans earlier this year by briefly returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Deadpool and Wolverine. However, instead of reprising his role as Steve Rogers, Evans appeared as the Human Torch from Fox’s Fantastic Four films.

According to the trade, Marvel had previously discussed bringing Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a standalone film. While plans for that project never materialized, recent developments led both sides to view Avengers: Doomsday as the ideal opportunity to reintroduce their iconic characters.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is one of two back-to-back Avengers films set to close out the current saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Avengers: Secret Wars following shortly after. Doomsday and Secret Wars are both being written by Stephen McFeely, who also worked on Avengers: Infinity War and its follow-up, Endgame.

During San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel announced that Robert Downey Jr. would step into the role of Doctor Doom following the firing of Jonathan Majors, who was originally set to play Kang the Conqueror in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. After Majors’ departure, the film was reworked into Avengers: Doomsday, now featuring Doom as the central villain.
