With Delhi elections just weeks away, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and AAP MP Sanjay Singh were involved in a fiery war of words over illegal immigration of Bangladeshi Rohingyas and discrepancies in voter lists. Speaking at the Agenda Aaj Tak event, Tiwari accused the AAP of supporting illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Rohingyas for votes. Hitting back, Sanjay Singh said the Centre should be held accountable as the Home Ministry was responsible for keeping a check on cross-border infiltration.
Speaking at the event, Tiwari alleged that former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wanted to make illegal Bangladeshi immigrants AAP’s vote bank. “For the first time, a former Chief Minister approached the Election Commission to get voter cards made for illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators. It is ironic that AAP is aiming to win the elections relying on Rohingyas and illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators?” the BJP MP said.
Tiwari’s remark comes at a time when the Delhi Police has launched a crackdown against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh residing in Delhi. The issue has become the latest flashpoint between the AAP and the BJP ahead of the crucial Assembly polls next year.
The North East Delhi also alleged that when the BJP attempted to remove fake voters from the electoral rolls, Kejriwal had provided “3,000 pages of evidence” to oppose the move. “Why don’t you trust your own voters that you need to support illegal infiltrators?” Tiwari said.
Emphasing that there was a difference between infiltrators and refugees, Tiwari said he would resign if the AAP provided evidence to counter his claims. “If proven wrong, I will step down. But, the BJP will not let a single Indian lose their right to vote,” he said.
SANJAY SINGH BLAMES CENTRE FOR BORDER INFILTRATION
Responding to Tiwari, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said the Centre was liable for border infiltration, underlining that securing the borders was the responsibility of the Home Ministry.
“Has Donald Trump, Joe Biden, or Barack Obama ruled this country for the past 10 years? The Home Minister for the last decade has been Amit Shah, and the Prime Minister has been Narendra Modi. Securing the borders is Amit Shah’s responsibility. How did illegal Bangladeshi immigrants reach Delhi, crossing Assam, Tripura, Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh?” the Rajya Sabha MP said.
Calling for the resignation of Amit Shah over the issue, Singh said, “If illegal immigrants are found in Delhi, it is the responsibility of the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Prime Minister to remove them. Is it Kejriwal’s job to deport Bangladeshi or Nigerian nationals?”
ON DELHI ELECTIONS 2025
Meanwhile, both Sanjay Singh and Manoj Tiwari exuded confidence of the AAP and the BJP winning the Delhi elections respectively. Singh said Arvind Kejriwal would be the chief ministerial face and would also become the chief minister for a fourth term.
However, Tiwari said Kejriwal betrayed the people of Delhi. “Arvind Kejriwal was the face of AAP but what did he give to Delhi? Kejriwal betrayed Delhi… Sewer water is coming into the taps of Delhi, so now Delhi is saying, ‘we will not tolerate it anymore’,” the BJP MP said.
