It’s not uncommon for stars to steal a little memento from set when they wrap on a project.
Daniel Radcliffe held onto Harry Potter’s glasses, Chris Hemsworth still has Thor’s hammer, Julie Andrews uses a pair of Mary Poppins’ shoes as a door stop, and Lisa Kudrow still has the iconic Cookie Time jar that sat atop Monica’s fridge on the set of Friends.
But while most stars take it upon themselves to collect a keepsake, Kudrow was given hers as a gift – and only now, more than two decades after the show’s finale aired, has she realised just how special a gift it was.

Kudrow was given the cookie jar by her Friends co-star, Matthew Perry, who sadly died in October 2023.
The Easy A actress has never been shy about the fact she still has the cookie jar, but on a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, she revealed the gift was more sentimental than she’d originally realised.
According to People, when talking about things stolen from set, Barrymore asked Kudrow about the whereabouts of the cookie jar.

A look back at the cast of Friends then and now
“Matthew gave that to me at the end of our last episode,” the Friends star shared, adding that she’d just discovered a special gift Perry left for her inside the jar.
“I had recently found the note that he had in it for me,” she added.
“I hadn’t opened it up or looked inside of it. But yeah, he did. He had a note in there and I forgot about it.”

Kudrow wouldn’t share what the note said, but she did tell Barrymore of the moment that she found it that “timing is everything.”
Kudrow and Perry starred alongside one another for all 10 seasons of the hit sitcom, from 1994 to 2004.
Following Perry’s death, Kudrow shared a touching tribute to her friend on Instagram, posting an image of them together at the NBC Upfronts after only the pilot episode had been filmed.
“Thank you for making me laugh so hard at something you said, that my muscles ached, and tears poured down my face EVERY DAY,” she wrote alongside the image.

“Thank you for your open heart in a six way relationship that required compromise. And a lot of ‘talking.’ Thank you for showing up at work when you weren’t well and then, being completely brilliant.
“Thank you for the best 10 years a person gets to have,” Kudrow continued.
“Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for all I learned about GRACE and LOVE through knowing you. Thank you for the time I got to have with you, Matthew.”
