YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Sai Reddy, on Monday, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the investigation into irregularities in Kakinada Sea ports.
The Rajya Sabha member was questioned by the ED for six hours at its office in Basheerbagh. According to him, he was not involved in the case, and that a fake complaint was filed against him.
The case involves accusations of cheating, criminal intimidation, and conspiracy to acquire stakes in Kakinada Seaports Limited and Kakinada SEZ Limited at a reduced price for Aurobindo Realty, now known as Auro Infra.
The ED is investigating the case after the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department registered a case based on the complaint of former Chairman and Managing Director of Kakinada Seaports Limited (KSPL), Karnati Venkateswara Rao.
Reddy did not appear before the ED earlier as Parliament was in session. Lookout notices were issued against the MP in connection with the Kakinada Sea Port case, which prompted him to approach the Delhi High Court.
After the questioning on Monday, Reddy, at a press conference, told the media that he was asked about 25 questions and he was investigated based on KV Rao’s complaint.
“I said I don’t know KV Rao. I have no connection with him. I never called KV Rao regarding the Kakinada Sea Port issue,” Reddy told the media.
Reddy labelled the complaint by KV Rao as false and stated he would pursue civil and criminal action if proven baseless. He then said that KV Rao should swear to god at Tirumala. “I am ready to face any punishment if I do anything wrong,” he said.
“I have no connection to these issues and no knowledge of the case. Although I am a YSRCP MP, I am not part of the government body or involved in decision-making. It was a false complaint. I asked ED officials to verify the details and confirm the facts with the complainant,” said the Rajya Sabha MP.
The MP emphasised his limited role as an MP, distancing himself from government decisions linked to the allegations.
“KV Rao is saying that I called him in May 2020. You can check if I called him by taking the call data. I never called KV Rao anywhere. I requested that KV Rao be called for an ED investigation,” Reddy added.
Reddy also told the media that he clarified with the ED about having no connection to Ranganath Company or Sridhar Reddy. He told the media that his relationship with Sarath Chandra Reddy was purely familial, denying any financial transactions with Vikrant Reddy.
According to Reddy, the ED also questioned him about past financial transactions related to Sandur Power Company, which he said he didn’t remember due to the passage of time.
The irregularities first came to notice after KV Rao alleged that he was coerced into signing agreements to transfer shares to Aurobindo Realty & Infrastructure under threats of arrest and harm to his family. Rao described the transactions as a gross undervaluation and significant financial fraud: his family-owned enterprise Kakinada Infrastructure Holdings Pvt. Ltd lost assets worth Rs 2,500 crore for Rs 494 crore; and the Kakinada SEZ Limited entity lost assets valued at Rs 1,109 crore for just Rs 12 crore.
